You may be suffering from many
different conditions ranging from IBS, Celiacs disease, Gluten intolerance and
many more. So how do you actually know that you are suffering from gluten
intolerance or Celiacs disease? Not all doctors and GP’s are aware of the
condition and don’t know much about the condition.
The diagnosis process is not as
simple for gluten intolerance, there is a blood test which can be taken to
confirm the presence of Celiacs disease, but this is not the case when it comes
to gluten intolerance. With Celiacs disease, sometimes a small endoscopy may be
done to take a small sample of the damaged small intestine of someone with
Celiacs disease.
Gluten intolerance is a lot less
severe than Celiacs disease, more likely to be classed as being similar to
allergies such as Lactose intolerance. You will be given dietary advice if you
have gluten sensitivity, such as cutting out gluten, where to buy ‘free from’
products and how to avoid cross contamination.
You will now need to be well
aware of cross contamination when it comes to gluten intolerance or Celiacs
disease. You can get contaminated anywhere you go, even if you only walk into a
bakers shop you can be contaminated with gluten as the flour which contains
gluten can be airborne due to its lightness, but it is highly unlikely that you
will have any severe reactions from that.
You will not be able to buy
gluten free bread from a general bakers shop due to the fact that the airborne
flour will have landed on the bread contaminating it. You will also have to be
careful at home and make sure that your food is prepared separately to the rest
of the family’s food so that the gluten from their food does not get onto your
food.
Gluten is a protein which is
found in Wheat, Barley, Rye and couscous. These ingredients are found in so
many different foods which you eat on a daily basis from bread to tomato sauce,
to pasta to fish and chips from the chip shop.
When you eat these products your
body goes into attack mode, your immune system will begin to attack itself
which is what all auto- immune diseases tend to do. There is a fight of the
fittest war going on in your own body. The only cure is to embark on a gluten
free diet. This does not mean that you have to cut out all of your favorite
foods. There are alternatives.
